Five students have decided to transfer their love for slime into their own small business that will hopefully grow over time.

On Saturday, September 1, year 6 students Amaya Husband (Warwick Academy), Honor Caesar (Warwick Academy), Zamaya Lightbourne (Bermuda Institute), Jovi Simon Dwire (Dalton E Tucker), and Quinton Husband (Warwick Academy) — all 10 years of age — launched their new small business: “Slime Queens Bermuda”.

The launch took place around midday at People’s Pharmacy and was a huge success.

Their new small business involves making and selling their own handmade and unique slime.

Customers were able to choose from their selection of slimes of different sizes, colours, consistency, adornments and even scents, including non-edible slime Lattes and smoothies!

These budding entrepreneurs would even custom-make slime to the customer’s liking, giving it that personal touch.

Their design for their product even boiled down to their own sparkly packaging with their slime recipe, decorated table and a sampling area inside the children’s section of the People’s Pharmacy.

During their launch, they were asked a few questions about their new business.

Amaya Husband and Honor Caesar who are co-CEOs of the business answered the questions together.

When asked what made you want to start this specific business and why they both said “Slime is very famous and we both love slime. We love making it and we thought that other children would like it as well, So, we decided to start a business”.

“A couple of weeks ago, we went around to different stores, asking where we could set the launch — and here we are. We are very thankful to People’s Pharmacy.

The girls went on to explain: “A lot of children don’t have small businesses, so we thought we could be one of the first, then we started to get really motivated. Because if Ashley (Ashley’s Lemonade) can do it, then so can we.”

The slime trend has exploded all over Bermuda as a fun thing to make.

Honour explained: “It is a good stress reliever and helps the hands to develop.”

“We all came together because we live in the same neighbourhood and we all love slime, we decided to make different types of slime.

“They’re scented, pretty, and they were all in three different sizes: The eight-ounce, three-ounce and the twelve-ounce”

They were also asked when this idea started to take action, they both replied: “Around February or March this year, and it required a lot of work, balancing schoolwork among other things, but it was worth it.”

The CEOs discussed how they came up with the logo Slime Queens Bermuda.

“We thought ‘Slime Queens Bermuda’ was a good name and we always had an idea to make tee-shirts but when we knew this was for real, we got them. So, we designed the logo and had Keepsake Kraft’s make the stickers and labels.”

In preparation for their launch, they made a total of four boxes full of slime and then while on summer break, they made more.

They then ordered the stickers and packaged their goods in their own product’s labelling.

Honour and Amaya explained that their goals for launch were “to sell out and use the money to buy more supplies to make more of our product, save a portion, and donate the rest to charity. The charity we picked was Family Centre”.

The girls were very excited during the launch and mentioned that they felt others at their age should do something similar “because a lot of children like so many different things, instead of buying it, they can make something of their own”.

They mentioned that they were “very proud of our new business and feel that it is doing really well, and we are excited for the future”.

The first day of their business went smoothly as they achieved their goal by selling out.

It was an amazing experience for all of them as they had a great time serving their customers and sharing their passion with others.

The launch was quite successful, no doubt it will continue to be so.
