Bermuda Interact Club was started in September 2015 by adviser Cathy Bassett of the Hamilton Rotary Club.

More than 40 students from middle and senior schools, both public and private, have joined the Interact Club.

Rotary is an international organisation of 1.2 million members which provides humanitarian services, and advances goodwill and peace around the world.

Interact Clubs are Rotary International Service Clubs for students between 12 and 18 years old.

More than 200,000 students in 159 countries are involved with Interact worldwide.

Locally, the student group has students from private and public schools across the island.

They prepare hampers for the needy (Salvation Army); participate in community clean-ups (KBB); tag for local charities and volunteer for community projects (manning gates at annual exhibition).

The students are mentored by Rotarians and gain work experience.

Student Interactors have participated in work shadowing summer programmes at the Victoria Street Clinic, The Royal Gazette and Belco.

In addition to local community work, Interactors identify an international project each year.

In the past, interactors sent shoes to needy children in Haiti, and raised funds to assist a family in the New York District, whose house had burnt down.

They raise funds through trashathons, bake sales and selling second-hand books at The Pembroke Rotary Childrens’ Fair. Each year, the group donates money to a local charity.

Meetings take place every other Thursday, during the academic school year, at Youth and Sport Board Room, Craig Appin House, 3rd floor, 8 Wesley Street, Hamilton, between 5pm and 6pm.
