TEDx was a thought-provoking experience
Adrianna: During the TEDx Bermuda event there were various speakers who spoke about topics ranging from robotics to painting on planes.
The speaker I was most intrigued by was Dr Sam Wass, who talked about how technology has changed the way of children from today compared to children 100 years ago. Basically, he noted that recently there has been so much change in technology that the effects on this are unknown in the long-term.
He also showed the correlation between learning and stress. He stated that technology gives children so much information so fast that they are becoming smarter; however, stress levels are going up in kids. He questioned whether the two were connected, and in my opinion this is true. We have so much knowledge at the tips of our fingers, and it can be overwhelming sometimes which can lead to anxiety.
Cree: I enjoyed the TEDx talks because it was an amazing opportunity to gain more insight on the types of professions and career paths in the world.
Some of my favourite speakers were the psychiatrists, Jacqueline Olds and Richard Schwartz, because their messages on relationships were really relevant and heightened my understanding of the relationships in my own life. I also thoroughly enjoyed Dr Wass’s presentation on how Generation Z uses technology and understands it.
